Get ready for a day of fun and learning. The Kingstree Chapter of the Sons of Allen are planning a Youth Retreat that promises to be chock full of exciting workshops and games.
The retreat is scheduled for June 29, beginning at 8 a.m. with Hour of Power then kids will learn basic CPR from trained Williamsburg County EMS technicians. More fun is planned such as image and character building and a presentation by law enforcement. The Sons of Allen are working to bring back Boy Scouts so they’ve invited a representative from Boy Scouts of the Pee Dee to talk about re-establishing a troop in the county. The day will end with a basketball tournament.
The Sons of Allen is a men’s ministry of the AME Church that spearheaded the annual event five years ago. Since then the committee has added activities and seen a growth in attendance. Joseph Pendergrass said in 2018, they hosted 100 children. “This year our goal is 200,” said Pendergrass who is chapter coordinator, which consists of 38 churches from Charleston to Lake City. “We try to reach out to the youth and to enlighten them. Pendergrass said as we live in perilous times they want to show kids a better way in Jesus Christ. “You still can have fun and stay out of trouble.”
Boys ages 10 to 18 can sign up for the retreat by calling Pendergrass at (843) 356-0509 or President Cleveland Darby at (843) 356-4192. Registration is $10. The retreat is sponsored by the AME Church.
