Kerrie Malyka Singleton graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia on Monday, December 18, 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, highest honors, with a final grade point average of 3.979. In addition, she graduated with Leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement.
Singleton is a 2014 “War Eagle” graduate of C. E. Murray High School in Greeleyville, wherein she graduated valedictorian.
Singleton is a member of Theta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Additionally, on campus, she participated as a member of the South Carolina Teaching Fellows, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, and Multicultural Outreach Student Team. She is a member of Wilson United Methodist Church in Greeleyville.
Singleton is the daughter of Drs. Kerry and Tracey Singleton of Greeleyville and Justin and Debra Bell Mitchum of Ladson. She is the granddaughter of Sam and Jannie Woods Singleton of Greeleyville and Freddie and Michelle Chandler of Goose Creek. She is the great-granddaughter of Deacon Roosevelt and Magalene Woods of Kingstree and the late Eunice Estelle Singleton Hart. She is the sister of Kerry D. Singleton, Jr. and Shatequa (Jamal) Gamble Ursery of Yuma, Arizona.
In January 2018, Singleton will be a first grade teacher at Greeleyville Elementary School and will continue to tutor students at Tender Bears’ Day Care & Learning Center in Greeleyville. Singleton is certified and highly qualified by the South Carolina Department of Education in Early Childhood Education.
Singleton stated “I would like to thank my family, friends, community members, and scholarship donors for their overwhelming support in assisting me throughout my undergraduate studies. But most importantly, I would like to thank God for his grace, wisdom, and mercy throughout this process.”
