A Salters man was killed Sunday, July 7, around 1:15 a.m. in a crash. Williamsburg County Deputy Coroner Vernal Fulton identified the driver as Jerome Anthony Coleman, 54, of Salters.

The crash occurred approximately four miles west of Andrews. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Sonny Collins, the driver of a 2011 Ford pickup was driving west on Highway 521 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Coleman was killed as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. A passenger was transported to a local hospital. Coleman and the passenger weren’t wearing seatbelts.

As of July 7, 472 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 520 highway deaths during the same time period in 2018.
