Workers contracted through the Department of Transportation are full-depth patching sections of Longstreet Street. Crews will also mill (remove) two inches of the existing asphalt, perform concrete work then come back and resurfaceall four lanes. The stretch of highway involved runs from the intersection of Main Street to the intersection of Academy Street.

The work falls under the Preservation Program, which resurfaces roads that are still in good shape. Preservation costs much less compared to a complete repair and gives the road around eight to ten more years of pavement life. A section of Highway 512 is also a Preservation project.
