The HomeTown Players present “Red, White, and Who?”

The Williamsburg HomeTown Chamber’s annual awards banquet was held on Tuesday, March 5 at the Kingstree Recreation Center.

“Red, White and Who?” was the them of this year’s event. Chamber leaders impersonated United States presidents, politicians, famous musicians and infamous historical characters during a comedic dreamscape skit presented between award presentations throughout the evening. Table sponsors put on a show themselves with elaborate decorations of red, white and blue.

Chamber Director Micheale Duke emceed her last awards event, as she is stepping down from her role to enjoy retirement.

The 2024 HomeTown Chamber award winners are:

  • Agriculturalist of the Year: William and Carla Johnson (presented by Bobby Jonte Bank of Greeleyville)
  • Club/Organization of the Year: Williamsburg Academy Fellowship of Christian Athletes (presented by Allen Abernethy MUSC)
  • Community Image of the Year: MUSC Health Black River Medical Center (presented by Amy Sanders DSM)
  • Iron Eyes Cody Award: Springfield Plantation (presented by Leslee Spivey)
  • Kingstree Township Award: Sgt. Danny Wayne Gaskins (presented by Kingstree Mayor Darren Tisdale)
  • Lane Township Award: Turo Turo Filipino Restaurant (presenter Lane Mayor Charlie Fulton)
  • Greeleyville Township Award: Doris Witherspoon (presented by Councilman Randy Landreth)
  • Hemingway Township Award: George Sutton (presented by William Freeman, Hemingway Town Manager)
  • Industry of the Year: Solmax (presented by Skeet Coker, FTC)
  • Business of the Year: HopeHealth (presented by Ryan Cooper, SEC)
  • Humanitarian of the Year: Dr. Ed Johnson (presented by Kelvin Wymbs, WCSD Superintendent). This award was given posthumously, and received by his wife, Mrs. Judy Johnson.
  • Citizen of the Year: Richard Treme (presented by Senator Ronnie Sabb)
  • William H. Chandler Lifetime Achievement Award: Leslee Spivey (presented by Brenda Woods, WoodmenLife)
