Traffic Safety Checkpoints

The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments and the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of March.

Seniors Patrol

The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Andre Williams or Police Chaplain the Rev. Harold Jackson. Williams and Jackson can be reached at (843) 355-5435. You also can come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

Special Needs Support

Yoga

Regular yoga class for beginners and chair yoga classes are held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.  The classes require no experience with yoga, but if you have experience with yoga you’ll feel right at home. Please make your reservation for a class at least a day ahead of time by calling Evelyn Cloy at (843) 870-5876, use the phone, text. Classes are located at 305 Hampton Ave., Kingstree, please use the door at the hall that does not face Hampton Ave. find it on the left of the building.

Senior Bingo

The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

Volunteers Needed

Seniors and disabled adults in your community are homebound and need your help getting to doctor appointments, grocery stores, social activities, religious services and more. Free Tax Services

Free tax filing services and FAFSA applications will be held February 1 to April 18 on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Kingdom International Management, 640 Broad St., Sumter from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information call (803) 883-5483.

Pageant Applications

Applications are now being accepted for the title of Miss Teen South Carolina International 2019, an official preliminary to the Miss Teen International Pageant that will be held at the Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia. The dates are July 22 to July 27, www.thedclaycenter.org. The young woman selected as Miss Teen South Carolina International 2019 will serve as an ambassador for South Carolina and receive an official crown and sash. Miss Teen International 2019 will receive prizes and college scholarship money. There is no swimsuit competition. Competitions will include private interview, 40 percent; fitness wear, 20 percent; fashion wear, 20 percent; and evening gown, 20 percent. Each state delegate will receive a four year renewable scholarship of $17,500 to Hollins University, www.hollins.edu. Free Tax Preparation

Free tax prep from certified tax preparers will be held Mondays at the Greeleyville Library from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. by appointment only; Tuesdays at the Hemingway Library from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. by appointment only; and Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the Kingstree Library, Mondays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., walk-ins allowed. Community Yard Sale

Wyboo Plantation Community Yard Sale will be held Saturday, March 30, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the parking lot at the Wyboo Plantation Community Center, 100 Recreation Dr., Manning. The yard sale is sponsored by WPWC.  All proceeds will go toward P.E.O. scholarships.

Book Sales

Williamsburg Friends of the Library will be having book sales each month throughout 2019 at the library in the Genealogy & South Carolina section. There will be a good selection of gently used books for all ages with great prices. Ask at the library how you can join Friends of the Library to share ideas to accomplish its goals.  Applications are available. Check the FB page for more information on events held at the library. Sale dates are April 13, May 18, June 22, July 20, August 17, September 21, October 19, November 16, and December 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Book Signing

Williamsburg Friends of the Library will be hosting Dr. Donna B. Huger on April 16, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the library. She will be presenting her book “Sagacious Doves, A Guide To Graciously Inventing And Realizing Life Sagaciously.” Books will be available for purchase and signing. Huger is one of several authors with a Williamsburg County connection that the Friends will be hosting in upcoming months. Join them in support of her literary endeavors. The public is invited. There is no cost.

Friends of the Library Meeting

Williamsburg Friends of the Library will hold their second quarterly meeting on April 23, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the library.  All members are asked to mark their calendars and come to learn of the activities planned for 2019.  Anyone that would like to join or know more about the group are welcomed to attend.

Poetry Readings

Williamsburg Friends of the Library will be hosting the second annual Poetry Readings by local poets in celebration of Poetry Appreciation Month on April 26, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the library. If you would like to participate please contact Ginger Mouzon at (843) 355-9486 or stop by the library and let them know at the circulation desk.  You do not have to be published to share your poetry or poetry that you love.  Join them for a fun session of poetry reading. The public is invited.  All programs offered at Williamsburg County Library are free.

Easler Family Reunion
