Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of June.

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Summer Camp -  The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is pleased to announce it is accepting student applications to its SOaR Aviation Aerospace Summer Camp.  The camp is open to all sophomore and junior high school students in the state of South Carolina. The camp will be held at the University of South Carolina on July 15 to July 20,  free of charge.  Only 50 applicants will be accepted. More information can be found at www.thecelebratefreedomfoundation.org.

 

Camp - Camp Wildwood of South Carolina opens for 2012 registration. Wildwood  is an outdoor environmental camp for 10th through 12th grade students and is in session June 17  to June 23, at Kings Mountain State Park. Daily activities, conducted by professional resour-ce staff members include instruction in fisheries, forest-ry, firearm safety, orienteering, first aid, soils and wildlife.

Meeting - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Volunteers - Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault is a non-profit volunteer organizations dedicated to the reduction of rape, family violence and child abuse and to the needs of its victims. Pee Dee Coalition needs your support as a volunteer. The next training class is scheduled for June 16, 23, 25 and 30, from 9 a.m.  to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 25,  at the Kingstree Town Hall at 401 North Longstreet St. For additional information, please contact County Coordinator Freda Cox at (843) 354-6481.

 

Vacation Reading Club - Come one! Come all! The Williamsburg County Library is inviting all children ages infant to 12 to sign up for the Vacation Reading Club. The theme this year is Dream Big Read. Sign up will begin on June 6, until the end of June. Read 10 hours and earn your certificate and prize. The library staff will be explaining what the Vacation Reading Club is, how to earn prizes and the different types of programs we will be having. The library staff will also answer any questions that you may have. On Wednesday, June 13,  the library staff will be showing a movie at 11 a.m. at the Williamsburg County Library – Hemingway Branch and at 3 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Library – Kingstree.

 

Support Group - The  Alzheimer’s Associa-tion Caregiver Support Group will meet the third Friday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Library, Main Library’s Meeting Room in Kingstree. Participants may park in the library parking lot. Contact person for this group is Nancy Adams (843)-822-5133. The support group is free and open to the public.  All family members and friends are invited to attend.

 

 Banquet - Williamsburg County (Cub/Boy) Scouts would like to announce that it will be having its “Blue & Gold” Awards Banquet on Tuesday, June 26, at the Williamsburg County School Districts Annex Cafeteria at 500 Academy Street,  from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

They will have a special “Order of the Arrow” ceremony that evening, as well.

Meeting - The Williamsburg Home-Town Chamber will offer a short program on tax incentives for income producing historic buildings at 4:30 p.m. on June 19, at the chamber office. Bingo - Hey Williamsburg County, Bingo is here!! Where? At the J.Miller Family Entertainment Center located at 2919 Hwy 521 (Old B.J.Gordon Building) Grand opening is Thursday, July 12 at 6pm to 9pm. The Salters and Lane Community Action Inc. Proceeds sponsor the event to benefit the Academically under-privileged children and emergency assistance.
