Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of May.

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

 

Memory Dish  - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is: (843) 213-8507.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Services, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

 Applications -  The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is pleased to announce it is accepting student applications to its SOaR Aviation Aerospace Summer Camp.  

The camp is open to all sophomore and junior high school students in the state of South Carolina.  The camp will be held at the University of South Carolina on July 15 to July 20,  free of charge.  Only 50 applicants will be accepted. More information can be found at www.thecelebratefreedomfoundation.org.

 

Grief Meeting - Tidelands Community Hospice in cooperation with Williamsburg Funeral Home will sponsor a six part grief support workshop for those in Kingstree and surrounding communities who have lost a loved one and are grieving their loss. 

The meetings will be held at Williamsburg Funeral  Home (322 E. Main St.) on successive Thursday mornings from April 19 through May 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A light lunch will follow. Camp - Camp Wildwood of South Carolina opens for 2012 registration. Wildwood  is an outdoor environmental camp for 10th through 12th grade students and is in session June 17  to June 23, at Kings Mountain State Park. Daily activities, conducted by professional resource staff members include instruction in fisheries, forestry, firearm safety, orienteering, first aid, soils and wildlife. Free Day Pass - RuthLouis Adult Health Day Care Centers  are licensed adult daycare center where you or your loved ones will be cared for and supervised by professional RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.  The centers are Alzheimer's certified. Exhibition - ‘The Artwork of Our Young Artists’ will be on exhibition May 4 to May 31, at the C. Williams Rush Gallery at 200 Hampton Avenue in Kingstree.  Selected local and South Carolina students, and young adults will exhibit and have some of their artwork available for sale. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional times are available by appointment.   

 

Golf Classic - The Georgetown Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 15th annual Harbor City Scholarship Golf Classic on Saturday, May 26, at the Founders Club in Pawleys Island. Tee time for this four person, captain’s choice scholarship fundraising tournament is 9 a.m. Individuals will be paired with other players to create a team.  Proceeds from the tournament will be used to support scholarships and the fraternity’s youth programs. Yard Sale - Eugene Chapter 137 Masonic Lodge, Main St., Kingstree, will have a yard sale on Saturday, May 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Spring Fling - Community Angels Fund, Inc. will have its annual Spring Fling Car and Bike Show Saturday, June 2, at John C. Land, III Boating and Sports Fishing Facility of Summerton. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the show is from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The featured band will be Chaos, presented by The American Pontoon Company.

Meeting - AARP Williamsburg County Chapter 5360 monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, at 12 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Williamsburg County Recreation Complex at 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree.

Membership Drive - Business Leaders and Young Professionals in Orangeburg County and surrounding areas are invited to experience the dynamic energy of Orangeburg Young Professionals at its 2012 Kick-Off Reception and Membership Drive. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, at the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce. Baseball Camp - The annual Coker College Skills & Drills Summer Baseball Camp will be held June 4 to June 8, on the Coker College Baseball Complex. The five sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The camp will be devoted to pitching, hitting, bunting, and base running. The camp is open to players ages six to 17 and the cost is $65 for the week. Participants will need to provide their own bat and glove. All other equipment will be furnished by the camp. Each camp participant will receive a camp t-shirt.

Memorial Day Program - The Veterans Affairs Memorial Day Program will be held on Monday, May 28, at the Alex Chatman Complex Auditorium, 147 West Main Street, Kingstree at 11 a.m. The information on cards mailed out was incorrect in giving the location at 375 Nelson Blvd. Please keep this correction in your mind and on your calendar.

A Summer Celebration - Down at the River is being sponsored by the Town of Kingstree and the Williamsburg HomeTown Chamber on Thursday, June 7, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The family friendly event held at Gilland Park in Kingstree will feature CoConut Groove Band from Charlotte, North Carolina playing your favorite songs.

 A food vendor will be available to provide food.  The community is invited to bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy an evening on the river with friends and family.  Coolers are welcome.  No glass please. The second event will be held on Thursday, July 12, at Gilland Park.  The band for the July event will be announced at a later date.

Volunteers Needed - The Red Cross is seeking volunteers that are interested in providing services to our military and their family members.  The Red Cross provides emergency communication messaging and other services to our military families. Also come learn about our “Adopting a National Guard Unit” program, which is new in South Carolina.  This service to the Armed Forces Workshop (1 1/2 hours) will be held on Thursday, May 31,  at 1 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Office, 3531 Pampas Drive, Myrtle Beach. For questions and to register, please email jeanne.carmichael@redcross.org or call (843) 693-8441.
