Traffic Safety Checkpoints -  The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of December .

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Caro-lina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

 

TOPS Program - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

 

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Meeting - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Showcase - The second annual “A Beautiful Black Christmas”Will be held from November 5 to December 31. A showcase of black angels, Santas, nutcrackers, nativity scenes and Christmas trees decorated with black ornaments from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at C. Williams Rush Gallery Of African-American Arts & Culture, 200 Hampton Avenue, Kingstree. Please call for group and other appointment times, (803) 397-1859 school groups are encouraged to attend all of the educational exhibits.

 

Season of Giving - It’s that time of year again to put a smile on the face of a child. This year, Teachings From the Ark, Inc. (The Ark), Mary Magdeline Outreach Center and The Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Annual Toy Drive have drop off boxes for unwrapped new toys. Boxes are located at the following locations: Anderson Brothers Bank, 500 E. Main Street, Kingstree; Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, 488 Nelson Blvd., Kingstree; Food Lion, 15 N. Williamsburg County Hwy., Kingstree; and United Finance Company, 115 Mill St., Kingstree. Monetary donation cans are also located at United Finance, Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, Food Lion, and Barr Law, LLC, 108 N. Academy St., Kingstree. Holiday Performance - Williamsburg County Magnet School of the Arts will present its holiday performance on December 18, at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

 

Library Events - The Williamsburg County Library is hosting two events during the month of December. The first will be on December 13, at 4 p.m. Raggs the Clown will be performing and Santa is coming to do free pictures with the children!

Then on December 20, there will be a Christmas carnival for children ages zero to 12 starting at 5 p.m.

 

Annual Toy Drive - Kingstree Kid’s Fourth Annual Toy Drive and Christmas Dance will be held Friday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Kingstree Moose Lodge.

The entertainment will be provided by Atlantic Groove with heavy hors d’oeuvres. The cost is $40 per couple or $25 single. Bring an unwrapped toy to place under the tree.

 

Santa Pictures at the Library - Thursday, December 13, the Williamsburg County Library is hosting an event for children ages zero to 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Joe the Balloon Dude and Santa Claus will come and entertain the kids.  There will be special balloons and free pictures with Santa for the parents!

 

Child Care Registration - Greater Bethel Community Child Care Learning Center will open on January 2, from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for preschool and after school.

The center is located at 308 W. Main St., Kingstree, and accepts ABC Vouchers.

Volunteers - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, Assisted Rides Program will have a volunteer orientation on December 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Library, located at 215 N. Jackson Street, and December 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the same location. During this orientation volunteers will receive their handbooks and badges. If you have not signed up to volunteer, what are you waiting for? Start the new year out helping senior or disabled adults in your community remain independent in their homes as long as possible. Production - Kingstree First Assembly of God will host its second annual Christmas production, entitled "Where R U? Christmas 2!"  The production will be held at the church, located at 872 Sumter Hwy., Kingstree, on Friday, December 21, at 6:30 p.m.  At the close of the performance there will be a dessert smorgasbord, where people will be able to enjoy a huge variety of Christmas goodies.  The church will wrap up the evening lighting the sky with spectacular, breath-taking fireworks. Meeting - A Concern Citizens meeting will be held Saturday, December 15, at 12 p.m. at the 2nd Mile Coffee Shop, Kingstree. The store is located in the fork of the road.
