Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Caro-lina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). Parade - The Andrews Veterans Association (AVA) is proud to announce a Veterans Day Parade and service will be held in Andrews on Saturday, November 3, at 1 p.m., with a service to follow at 3 p.m. The parade will be held on Main Street and the service will be held inside the local National Guard Armory. There are 50 prizes totaling $5,000 with a $1,000 grand prize for the last poet standing. Entries submitted may be written on any subject using any style, and the Contest Director Dr. Joseph Cameron will have the final say on judging the contest. Entrants should include their name and address on the same page as the poem, and a winners’ list will be sent to them. Also a winners’ list will be posted online.

Concert - The Georgia Guitar Quartet has emerged as an exciting new voice in today’s music scene. These four men from the American South deliver a high-energy blend of breathtaking virtuosity and imaginative programming while taking an adventurous approach to classical music. Rousing Folk music and late Impressionistic masterpieces share the stage, while the sublime beauty of Chopin rubs shoulders with groundbreaking contemporary works. The incredible range of the performance will be a thrilling way to experience chamber music. The Georgia Guitar Quartet will be in concert on Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake City Presbyterian Church.

Registration - If you are a current Webster University student, you will be able to register for Spring I and Spring II Tuesday, January 1, 2013, is last day to register for Spring I classes. Orientation (for new students) for non-counseling students is at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 2. At noon on Thursday, November 15, and Thursday, December 6, orientation (new students only) will be held for counseling students. If you are a new student, you must contact the university in order to participate in orientation.

Program - The Williamsburg County Veterans Affairs Office along with several of our local businesses has arranged with Brown’s Bar-B-Que for veterans with proper identification, to eat free on Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., their closing time. There will be a Veterans Day Program on Sunday, November 11, in the auditorium at the Alex Chatman Complex Center at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and help us pay tribute to our veterans who gave all and the ones who gave some to protect us from harm.
Classes - The Williamsburg County Recreation Center will be registering students for children and youth dance classes starting Monday, October 25, and ending Monday, November 15. Parents may register students at the recreation center’s office between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Classes will be for young people ages four to 17 and will be combination classes of ballet, tap, jazz, African dance and gospel hip hop. This is a nine-week course for $60. Christmas Parade - The Town of Kingstree will host its annual Christmas Parade on Friday, December 7, at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to contact the Kingstree Town Hall, Frank H. McGill Municipal Complex located at 401 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree or you may call (843) 355-7484 for entry, registration, and additional information no later than Wednesday, November 18. Entry is free. Line up will begin at 5 p.m. at the Kingstree Public Library located on Jackson Street. The parade will end at the Anderson Bank located on E. Main Street. The lighting of the Christmas tree will commence following the parade at Welch’s Park Downtown on E. Main Street. There will be a special guest for the kids.

Carnival - The Low Country Youth Enhancement Program along with the Town of Lane will sponsor a Fall Fun Carnival in the Town of Lane on Saturday, November 17, from 1 p.m. until the music stops. There will be food, music, fun and games. The Town of Lane will also have a fish fry. Proceeds from the carnival and fish fry will go toward the annual senior citizens Christmas dinner and to sponsor a family “A Christmas merrymaking.”
Halloween Treat - The Williamsburg County Library is hosting a special night full of fun, tricks and treats! Bring your children in their Halloween costumes and enjoy the Spooktober Halloween event on Tuesday, October 30, at 6 p.m. The library will have a story time and costume contest, followed by Trunk or Treating in the library parking lot!
Food Day - “Scouting for Food” Day will be held Saturday, November 3. The Williamsburg County Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be picking up “non-perishable” food from their friends and neighbors in their local neighborhoods. If you would to participate in this project, please place a shopping bag of food on your porch or attach it to your door, and a Scout will come by and pick it up that Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. If no one has come to pick it up after 12 p.m., please call Elaine Jones at (843) 355-5254, Abbie Malburg at (843) 372-3748, or Otis Franklin at (843) 372-1356, and someone will come and pick it up.

Course - AARP will be hosting an AARP driver safety classroom course at the Williamsburg County Library at 215 North Jackson Street, Kingstree, on Friday, November 9. There is a $12 fee for AARP members and a $14 fee for non-members. Veterans and their dependents are free. Participants must be over 25 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
