Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of May.

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is: (843) 213-8507.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Services, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

 Applications -  The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is pleased to announce it is accepting student applications to its SOaR Aviation Aerospace Summer Camp.  

The camp is open to all sophomore and junior high school students in the state of South Carolina.  The camp will be held at the University of South Carolina on July 15 to July 20,  free of charge.  Only 50 applicants will be accepted. More information can be found at www.thecelebratefreedomfoundation.org.

 

Grief Meeting - Tidelands Community Hospice in cooperation with Williamsburg Funeral Home will sponsor a six part grief support workshop for those in Kingstree and surrounding communities who have lost a loved one and are grieving their loss.  The meetings will be held at Williamsburg Funeral  Home (322 E. Main St.) on successive Thursday mornings from April 19 through May 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A light lunch will follow. There is no charge for this event. Camp - Camp Wildwood of South Carolina opens for 2012 registration. Wildwood  is an outdoor environmental camp for 10th through 12th grade students and is in session June 17  to June 23, at Kings Mountain State Park. Daily activities, conducted by professional resource staff members include instruction in fisheries, forestry, firearm safety, orienteering, first aid, soils and wildlife. Support Group - The  Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet the third Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical College, Classroom # 226. Participants may park in the front or back visitor’s parking lot. 

Contact person for this group is Nancy Adams (843) 822-5133. The support group is free and open to the public.  All family members and friends are invited to attend.

 

Free Day Pass - RuthLouis Adult Health Day Care Centers  are licensed adult daycare center where you or your loved ones will be cared for and supervised by professional RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.  The centers are Alzheimer's certified. They provide nursing services, activities of daily living, rehabilitative care, daily activities, and nutrition meals served hot and tasty. The  doors are opened to any and all qualifying adults with a disability or health condition, Alzheimer clients welcome.  Call today to take advantage of this free day pass with two locations serving the community.

Scholarship Gala - Parents, graduates, community members, business leaders, and friends of Williamsburg County Schools are invited to the Williamsburg County School District Hall of Fame Induction Scholarship Gala at the WCSD Magnet School on Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m.   Five distinguished graduates will be honored during this event. Ticket proceeds received from this scholarship gala will be used to support the district’s first scholarship fund that will be awarded to selected graduating senior in 2013.

 

Exhibition - ‘The Artwork of Our Young Artists’ will be on exhibition May 4 to May 31, at the C. Williams Rush Gallery at 200 Hampton Avenue in Kingstree.  Selected local and South Carolina students, and young adults will exhibit and have some of their artwork available for sale. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional times are available by appointment.   

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County DSN Board will be having their monthly board meeting on Wednesday, May 16, at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, 61 Greenlee Street, Kingstree.

 

Golf Classic - The Georgetown Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 15th annual Harbor City Scholarship Golf Classic on Saturday, May 26, at the Founders Club in Pawleys Island. Tee time for this four person, captain’s choice scholarship fundraising tournament is 9 a.m. Individuals will be paired with other players to create a team.  Proceeds from the tournament will be used to support scholarships and the fraternity’s youth programs. Meeting - The Williamsburg County Library Board of Trustees will meet on May 22, at 6 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Library at 215 North Jackson Street, Kingstree.  The board will vote on revisions to an Internet Access Policy and creation of the Internet Safety Policy.

 

Service - The 43rd Generation Ministry, 402 S. Ron McNair Blvd., Lake City, will have Pastor Tim Hodge of Crossroads World Outreach Center of Columbia to speak on Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m. Hodge is also the author of Destiny: God’s Plan, Your Choices. Bike-A-Thon - Bethesda United Methodist Church and Williamsburg County Teen CERT will host their second annual Walk/Bike-A-Thon on Saturday, May 19, at 8 a.m. Registration/bike inspection will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  For further information call (843) 354-6891 or (843) 382-5284. Yard Sale - Eugene Chapter 137 Masonic Lodge, Main St., Kingstree, will have a yard sale on Saturday, May 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Celebration - May is Mental Health Month and the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health Neighborhood Family Program would like to invite you to participate in the 15th annual Family and Friends Day Celebration featuring the Mental Health Rally and Walk. This event will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m. Please come and walk with them as they celebrate the dedication, support of families, friends, and volunteers who walk the road to recovery for mental illness. The walk will begin at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 411 N. Academy Street. They will walk toward East Main and turn left. The walk will conclude at the Neighborhood Family Center, 314 E. Main Street, followed by entertainment, luncheon, and social gathering. If you are unable to walk transportation will be available. If for some reason you are not available to participate in the walk please join them at the center for the social.

 

Spring Fling - Community Angels Fund, Inc. will have its annual Spring Fling Car and Bike Show Saturday, June 2, at John C. Land, III Boating and Sports Fishing Facility of Summerton. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the show is from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The featured band will be Chaos, presented by The American Pontoon Company.
