Woman hit during shootout

Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office investigators have arrested one suspect in connection to an April 8, shooting incident. Christopher C. White, III, 27 of Kingstree, has been arrested for malicious injury to personal property.

According to incident reports, a 3:00 AM shooting incident occurred in the parking lot of The Jet Away Lounge located on Highway 52 north beside The Word Holiness Church. At the time the club was hosting an after-party according to statements made by the owner.

The parking lot shootout allegedly triggered by a fight inside the club. White stated as he was dancing someone bumped into him. White stated he asked the unidentified person to stop bumping into him. Moments later White claimed he was hit in the head from behind. Witnesses on the scene stated at that point a grouo of unknown assailants ganged up on White and began to beat him.

The club then began to clear and according to statements White's girlfreind and was then escorted out of the club by his girlfriend and into a car driven by a freind. As they were driving away shoots were fired at the car, striking the driver in the right hand. The driver drove to an area hospital emergency room where all three were treated for their injuries.

Deputies made contact with the three individuals while they were at the hospital. Incident reports state that White would later admit to being one of the shooters. He was taken into custody and later booked at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.

Investigators returning to the scene noted several vehicles hit with gun shot. Evidence collected at the scene included dozens of 40 caliber, 45 caliber, and 9mm shell casings. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.  The Jet Away Lounge has been the site of multiple shootings and clashes since opening in 2004.
