Singing their hearts out! Cast members of the Williamsburg County Magnet School of the Arts Primary Chorus joyfully sang songs of the season during the school’s Art Department Christmas program “Santa’s Stuck in the 50s.”
Tuesday evening, December 13, marked the second production by the Williamsburg County Magnet School of the Arts. The gymnasium was packed to capacity, with standing room only, for the performance.
The theatrical production was entitled Santa’s Stuck in the 50s, and students on all grade levels participated as they rocked and rolled through an evening of merriment. The holiday ambience was set by the Williamsburg County School District Strings I Ensemble, as they performed a medley of Christmas tunes.
Magnet School child development student Hunter Mixon welcomed everyone to the event, and fourth grader Darby Watford read a poem entitled Santa’s Helpers. Students sang danced through the ‘50s with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as they reminisced about days of yesteryear.
Both solo and group vocal and instrumental arrangements were presented. Musical instruments included the piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, and glockenspiels.
The performance was under the direction of Jennifer Holliday, fine arts director for Williamsburg County School District. Other staff included Jonathan Chandler, band director; Chaste’y Gibson, Strings I director; Jackie Jenkins, visual arts instructor; Paulette King, drama instructor; Karl Singletary, dance instructor; and Wendell Williams, piano instructor.
