The Kingstree town manager position has never come with a contract but in a special called meeting on June 22, council voted unanimously to enter into a three year term agreement with Dan Wells. Wells was been active at the position since April. “I’m pleased that council has the confidence in me to extend the first ever contract to a town manager,” said Wells after the meeting.
Councilmember Wallace Bartelle said the contract will benefit both sides. “This provides security for both parties,” he said. “It gives the manager security, while establishing continuity.” Mayor Ricky Burrows looks forward to continuing the council’s relationship with Wells as well as with the citizens. “We look forward to working with a professional such as him,” said Burrows. “And I believe the public is going to see some major differences in Kingstree in the coming year such as the water projects and in equipment needed to make improvements to our town.”
In his most recent endeavors, Wells has uncovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in delinquent taxes and in furniture, and inventory tax due to the town. He is working with council and the attorney to go forward with collections.
