WRH CEO terminated

2/22/2012 Michaele Duke

Williamsburg Regional Hospital interim Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Monsour has been terminated. On February 14, after the hospital board reconvened from a two-and-a-half hour executive session members voted 3-2 to terminate Monsour. Monsour's termination is effective at the end of February. He was relieved of his duties effective immediately.
Prior to his dismissal, Monsour was placed on administrative leave during a February 7, board meeting. At that meeting an investigative committee was appointed by the board chairman.  According to Chairman John Martin, the board based their decision on the committee's findings.
Under his tenure, Monsour stabilized the hospital's finances, introduced new services such as a Sleep Lab, Chemotherapy clinic and Wound Care clinic, updated diagnostic equipment, and re-established the surgical department. Monsour was in the process of establishing kidney clinic, allergy clinic, cardiology clinic, and a new health clinic.
The board directed the hospital attorney to interact with the acting CEO, Sharon Poston to address priority items from a policy standpoint before the board's February 20, meeting.
