Funeral services for Willie James Staggers, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr., were held Friday, January 20, 2012, at St. James Baptist Church of Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Staggers, 81, died Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Regency Hospital in Florence. He was born February 4, 1929, in Salters, a son of the late Amos and Minda Kennedy Staggers. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Williamsburg Training School (C.E. Murray High School). He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and also attended St. James Baptist Church. He also served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was employed at Southern and Enterprize Trucking Company of Bronx, New York.
Survivors are: his wife, Estell Carolina Staggers of the home; two daughters, Denise Berry and Latasha Staggers, both of Darlington; six sisters, Katherine McKnight of Charleston; Barbara McFadden (Julious) of West Haven, Connecticut; Edie Roberson (Jerome) of Columbus, Georgia; Mae Frances Murray (Elijah) of Hains Port, New Jersey; Bernice Boulware (Hurley) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Emma Grant of Hopkins; and two granddaughters.
