Funeral services for Willie Walter Nelson, conducted by Elder S. Jackson and Pastor M. Bernard, were held Friday, December 21, 2012, at the Clauddie Henryhand Memo-rial Chapel of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the Florence National Cemetery of Florence. Mr. Nelson died Saturday, December 15, 2012. He was born May 1, 1922, in Florence, the son of the late John W. Nelson and Minnie S. Nelson. He graduated from Burke Industrial School of Charles-ton. He joined the United States Army, where he served in World War II in 1943. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he furthered his education at Voorhees Area Trade School of Denmark, where he majored in carpentry. He later worked as a #1 carpenter. He built homes throughout the Tri-County area. He served for 40 years at Holy Trinity Reform Episcopal Church of Charleston, where he served on the Senior and Male Choir. He was married to the late Rosetta Jones Nelson. Survivors are: one daughter, Dr. Brenda Nelson of Summerville; and one brother, Robert Nelson (Sharon) of the home.
