Funeral services for Willie Edward “Chief” Cooper, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Samuel L. Dennis, were held, Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at St. Paul AME Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Elijah United Methodist Church Cemetery of Kingstree. Mr. Cooper died Wednesday, May 23, 2012. He was born September 5, 1947, in Kingstree, the son of the late James P. Cooper and Margaret Bradley Cooper. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church of Kingstree. Mr. Cooper served in the United States Armed Forces for a brief period. He was a log truck driver and a farmer. Two brothers, James H. Cooper and Columbus Cooper, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Geneva Cooper; three sons, Ernie Wilson (Brenda) and Cleveland Cooper (Yvonne), both of Kingstree; and Willie Cooper, Jr. (Loretta) of Newton, North Carolina; two daughters, Valerie Griffin of Columbia, and Idell Singletary of Lake City; two sisters, Wyoma Hudson (William) of Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Anna Belle Cooper (Charles) of Monroe, North Carolina; and 23 grandchildren.
