Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Rush Gibson, conducted by Evangelist Minnie Davis and Bishop W.R. Dunmore, were held Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Starlight Holiness Church #2 of Andrews. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Zion Churchyard Cemetery of Andrews.
Mrs. Gibson died Thursday, August 23, 2012, in Miami, Florida. She was born March 2, 1936, in the Bloomingvale Community of Andrews, a daughter of the late George, Sr. and Illa Rush. She grew up and attended school in the Bloomingvale section of Williamsburg County. She attended Mt. Zion AME Church. She was married to Jimmy Gibson. She lived in Hartford, Connecticut, where she worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Two sons, Johnny and Gregory; four sisters, Annie, Edna, Rena, and Illa Mae; and two brothers, James and George, Jr., preceded her in death. Survivors are: one son, Herbie Gibson of Brooklyn, New York; four sisters, Pastor Minnie Davis (Vander), Janie Rush and Nettie White, all of Andrews; and Hester White of Hartford, Connecticut; two brothers, Pastor Nathan Rush (Joann) of Andrews; and John Easterling (Carrie) of Hartford, Connecticut; and her companion, Lester Keith of Georgetown.
