The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of August.

Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check.
Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.
Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

Tideland’s Hospice meeting
Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. holds a regular grief support group once a month in its Kingstree office. The group meets on the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m.  The hospice office is located at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kingstree (by the Bank of Greeleyville).

Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

Vital Aging to host dinner
On Tuesday, August 24, at 7 p.m., Vital Aging will be hosting a dinner and an evening with New York baseball legend Bobby Richardson at Santee Electric Cooperative, Conference Center located at 424 Sumter Highway, Kingstree. A buffet dinner will be served.  The proceeds benefit Vital Aging walk-in freezer fund for home delivered meals for the frail and elderly. Medical courses offered
The Occupational Outlook Center is now accepting registration for the following classes: Medical office assistant and certified nurse assistant. Courses include 40 hours of classroom instruction along with 40 hours of clinical externship. For more information, please contact (843) 545-9321.

Lake City Theatre holds auditions
The Lake City Community Theatre has decided to present the musical comedy “Pippin” as their spring production instead of “Cinderella” which was previously announced.
Auditions will be Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2, at 7 p.m. at the Blanding Street Auditorium. The dates for the presentation of “Pippin” at the Blanding St. Auditorium are Thursday, March 17, through Sunday, March 20.

WorkKeys classes to begin
Do you need WorkKeys? Do you need computer skills for employment? Come and see the staff of Williamsburg Adult Education Center to find out what they can do for you. Computer technology and Workkeys classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes will begin on September 7. Monthly meeting to be held
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6500, located at 2317 Sandy Bay Rd., Kingstree, will host its monthly meal and meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2. Expo to take place
Dream Makers Party Planners presents Me Time Business Expo. On Saturday, October 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Palmetto Place, 484 Nelson Blvd Kingstree. The expo promotes businesses while uplifting and entertaining the community. There is free admission to the community. Monthly meeting scheduled
A regularly scheduled board meeting for Waccamaw EOC, Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, August 31, at 7 p.m. at the Chavis Early Head Start Center Site, 2811 S. State Highway 41-51, Hemingway.  The public is welcome to attend.

Swim safety event to be held

Child Care Classes offered
The Division of Continuing Education at Williamsburg Technical College in partnership with the Center for Child Care Career Development is offering a 30-hour credential course for family and group child care providers. By completing this course, participants will earn the ABC Family Child Care Credential and may be eligible for a $100 Smart Money Bonus.  Classes will be held Thursdays, Sept. 23 through Dec. 2, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. in Building B, Room 504 at Williamsburg Technical College.  Instructor for the course will be Dr. Earlene Walker-Kelly and the fee will be $60. 50th reunion to be held
The Tomlinson Alumni, Inc. of Kingstree announces “Tomlinson High School’s Fifth Grand Reunion,” which will take place Labor Day weekend, September 3 to September 5. You may contact Pearl R. NAACP to hold meeting
The NAACP will meet September 12, at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Madison Ave., Kingstree, at 4 p.m. All are welcome and the NAACP is seeking new members.

AARP to hold meeting
The local chapter of the AARP will meet Wednesday, August 25, at 12 o’clock at the Williamsburg Recreation Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree. All are welcomed to join age 50 and over. Members are asked to please come, business of importance to be discussed. Preparation is being made for the annual banquet.
