The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of August.

Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

Tideland’s Hospice meeting
Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. holds a regular grief support group once a month in its Kingstree office. The group meets on the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m.  The hospice office is located at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kingstree (by the Bank of Greeleyville).

Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

Vital Aging to host dinner
On Tuesday, August 24, at 7 p.m., Vital Aging will be hosting a dinner and an evening with New York baseball legend Bobby Richardson at Santee Electric Cooperative, Conference Center located at 424 Sumter Highway, Kingstree. A buffet dinner will be served.  The proceeds benefit Vital Aging walk-in freezer fund for home delivered meals for the frail and elderly. WTC to hold registration
Williamsburg Technical College will hold open registration for the public, scheduled for August 18, 3 to 9 p.m. and August 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. High school students may also register to take college courses while still in high school. Course information, admission applications and financial aid applications are available at www.wiltech.edu or by visiting Williamsburg Technical College.

Hospice to hold training
Agape Hospice will have a patient care volunteer training on Wednesday, August 18. The training will be held at the hospice located on 342 W. Main St., Kingstree, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information contact Rebecca Nichols at 843-355-2434.

Medical courses offered
The Occupational Outlook Center is now accepting registration for the following classes: Medical office assistant and certified nurse assistant. Courses include 40 hours of classroom instruction along with 40 hours of clinical externship. For more information, please contact (843) 545-9321.

Dementia Dialogues series
Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will sponsor a Dementia Dialogues Educational Series. No cost to participate.  Recommended for anyone who interacts with or cares for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.  Pre-registration is required to attend, register by September 7. Vital Aging of Williamsburg County, Inc. will hold its monthly board of directors meeting on Wednesday, August 18, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Kingstree Wellness Center at 912 4th Avenue, Kingstree. Please call (843) 354-5496 if you have any questions.

DSN to hold board meeting
Williamsburg County DSN Board will be having their monthly board meeting on Wednesday, August 18, at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, 61 Greenlee Street, Kingstree.

Swim safety event to be held
Free Swim/Water Safety Day Event will be held Saturday, August 28, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Lawrence Community Center & Pool.  Call 843-382-9293 for more information.  

Lake City Theatre holds auditions
The Lake City Community Theatre has decided to present the musical comedy “Pippin” as their spring production instead of “Cinderella” which was previously announced.
Auditions will be Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2, at 7 p.m. at the Blanding Street Auditorium. The dates for the presentation of “Pippin” at the Blanding St. Auditorium are Thursday, March 17, through Sunday, March 20.

AARP to hold meeting
The local chapter of the AARP will meet Wednesday, August 25, at 12 o’clock at the Williamsburg Recreation Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree. All are welcomed to join age 50 and over. Members are asked to please come, business of importance to be discussed. Preparation is being made for the annual banquet.

Registration for fall classes begin
Do you need your high school diploma? Do you need a GED? Do you need WorkKeys? Do you need computer skills for employment? Williamsburg County School District Adult & Community Education registration for fall classes will be held August 16 to August 20. The classes will begin Tuesday, August 24. Kingstree site – 500 N. Academy St., registration hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, call 355-6887. Hemingway site- Hemingway One-Stop Chavis School, registration hours: 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily, 558-0687 or 355-6887. Check individual sites for class schedules.

WorkKeys classes to begin
Do you need WorkKeys? Do you need computer skills for employment? Come and see  the staff of Williamsburg Adult Education Center to find out what they can do for you. Computer technology and WorkKeys classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes will begin on September 7. Registration will be held on August 31, and September 2, beginning at 6 p.m. at 500 N. Academy St., Kingstree. For more information call (843) 355-6887.

HES holds open house
Hemingway Elementary School will hold Open House on Tuesday, August 24, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Parents, families and the community are invited. Following Open House a PTO meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. A Title I Review will be presented during the PTO meeting by Mrs. Betty Scott, HES Curriculum Specialist.

Monthly meeting to be held
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6500, located at 2317 Sandy Bay Rd., Kingstree, will host its monthly meal and meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2. Members for Change meeting to be held
The Santee Electric Co-Op Members For Change (A Watchdog Group) will have an informational meeting. The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 19, at 7 p.m. at the J.J. Mitcheom Center. The center is located at 2233 Hemingway Hwy., Hemingway.
