Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is: (843) 213-8507.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Services, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

Garden Tour - The Garden Club of SC, Inc. Statewide Garden Tour sponsored by The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc. The tour features four weekends spotlighting different areas of the state.  Saturday, April 14 - Conway Friday, April 20 - Bishopville and Lake City.  Applications -  The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is pleased to announce it is accepting student applications to its SOaR Aviation Aerospace Summer Camp.   The camp is open to all sophomore and junior high school students in the state of South Carolina.   The camp will be held at the University of South Carolina on July 15 to July 20,  free of charge.  Only 50 applicants will be accepted.  Applications are due by March 31.  More information can be found at www.thecelebratefreedomfoundation.org

 

Garden Party - Moore Farm and Botanical Garden, 1712 Pine Bay Road, Lake City, will host A Garden Party on Sunday, April 15, from 3 until 6 p.m. Garden Tours, refreshments and entertainment will be included during the afternoon.  Tickets are available at the Greater Lake City Chamber of Commerce. Hat Show - Delta Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will host their second annual Hat Show on Saturday, April 21, at 6 p.m. at The Ark, 105 East Main St. Kingstree. The event will partially benefit The March of Dimes with a ticket cost of $5. For further information, please contact any sorority member.

 

Rabies Clinic -  The Environmental Health Division of SC-DHEC is again asking for your help in promoting the annual spring rabies clinics.  These are very important, and affordable, public health events since a current rabies vaccination for every domestic pet is required by state law. Vaccination fee may vary by clinic location, please call 915-8833 if you have any questions.  Locations for the clinic: Animal Hospital of Kingstree, 201 N.Williamsburg City Hwy., Thursday, April 12, from 2 p.m. to  4 p.m., and Thursday, April 26, from 2 p.m.  to 4 p.m. Dogs must be on leash and cats ferrets must be in box or carrier.

 

Celebration - The St. John AME Church Family, located at 1297 Rhems Road, Andrews in the Morrisville Community, will host their annual Family and Friends Day celebration on Sunday, April 15,  beginning at 9  a.m. The guest speaker for this event will be the Rev. Juenarrl Keith, Presiding Elder of the Palmetto Conference Mount Pleasant District.  Dinner will be served following worship service.  Everyone is cordially invited to come out for a glorious morning of worship and praise. Grief Meeting - Tidelands Community Hospice in cooperation with Williamsburg Funeral Home will sponsor a six part grief support workshop for those in Kingstree and surrounding communities who have lost a loved one and are grieving their loss.

The meetings will be held at Williamsburg Funeral  Home (322 E. Main St.) on successive Thursday mornings from April 19 through May 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., A light lunch will follow. There is no charge for this event.

Meeting - Mt. Zion AME Church of Andrews will host a meeting for the senior citizens 55 and older and disabled person on Thursday, April 12, at 4 p.m. The meeting is to inform you about different programs that you might qualify for from the Lt. Governor’s office in Columbia.

The presenter will be the Rev. Brenda Blackstock (Medicare specialist) from Waccamaw Regional, Georgetown.

 

Health Fair

Caring for the Community health fair, sponsored by St. Michael United Methodist Church, will be held Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located by 417 Cedar Swamp Rd., Kingstree.

Free screenings and goodies provided by the American Cancer Society, Family Caregiver Support Program, FTC, Healthy Hoops Select Health of SC, Helping Hearts, Palmetto Aids Life Support Services, Yul Brynner Foundation, Williamsburg Regional Hospital, and many more sponsors.

 

Camp

Camp Wildwood of South Carolina opens for 2012 registration. Wildwood  is an outdoor environmental camp for 10th through 12th grade students and is in session June 17  to June 23, at Kings Mountain State Park. Daily activities, conducted by professional resource staff members include instruction in fisheries, forestry, firearm safety, orienteering, first aid, soils and wildlife. Free Day Pass - RuthLouis Adult Health Day Care provides relief for family members from the constant caring and provider roles of a loved one. They provide you with the relief of knowing that your loved one are getting the best of quality care.

 The free day pass will give you or your loved one the opportunity to come and visit the center of your choice. Join in with their daily activities, eat breakfast, have lunch, and stay for a snack. Support Group - The  Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet the third Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical College, Classroom # 226. Participants may park in the front or back visitor’s parking lot.  Contact person for this group is Nancy Adams (843) 822-5133. The support group is free and open to the public.  All family members and friends are invited to attend.

 

Dementia Dialogues - Vital Aging of Williamsburg County will sponsor a Dementia Dialogues Educational Series.  No cost to participate.  Recommended for anyone who interacts with or cares for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.  Five sessions will be held April 23, 30 and May 7, 14, 21, at 2 p.m. and last approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Class size limited.  Pre-registration required, register by April 21.  Instructor will be Nancy  Adams, RN, MSN.  Contact (843) 822-5133 with questions and to pre-register.

 

Groundbreaking  Ceremonies - Williamsburg County Government will be having groundbreaking ceremonies on Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m. for the new Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office/Detention Center at 207 S. Jackson St., Kingstree, and at 11:30 a.m. for the new E-911/Emergency Operations Center at 2084 Thurgood Marshall Blvd., Kingstree.

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County DSN Board will be having their monthly board meeting on Wednesday, April 18, at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, 61 Greenlee Street, Kingstree.

 

Meeting - A special called Waccamaw EOC, Inc. board meeting will be held on Thursday, April 12, at 6 p.m. at the Conway Administrative Office, 1261 Highway 501 E. Suite B, Conway.  The public is welcome to attend.

Class - A concealed weapon permit class will be held at the Kingstree Police Department located at 401 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree on May 12, at 8 a.m. Must have weapon and holster with 50 rounds of ammunition for qualification. Any questions notify Sgt. Marc K. Whitfield at (843) 355-5435.

 

Yard Sale - Corrie House Garments of Grace Ministries of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, located at the end of Sandy Bay Rd., will have an indoor yard sale every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
