The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of March.

Friends of Library book sales
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a book sale on the first Saturday in each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The book sale will be held at the white house on Church Street, Kingstree, beside the library.

Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo,” where they do crafting, have Bible trivia, sing, share, fellowship and play Bingo.

Weight Watchers begins new class
Weight Watchers 2010 meeting will be held at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 314 E. Main St., Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays beginning at 5 p.m.

Tideland’s Hospice meetings
Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. holds a regular grief support group once a month in its Kingstree office. The group meets on the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m.  The hospice office is located at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kingstree (by the Bank of Greeleyville).

Pilot Club holds Yard Sale
Pilot Club of Kingstree will be holding its annual yard sale on Saturday, March 6, at the Exchange Bank, the Longstreet Street branch, from 7 a.m. until noon. The yard sale will be held rain or shine.

Courses being offered
The Occupational Outlook Center is now accepting registration for the following courses to begin the second week in March: Phlebotomy certificate, this 10 weeks course is designed to provide students with a review of the theory and skills required in proper collection of blood specimens from patients. Certified nurse assistant in this nine weeks course, students will prepare for the written and skills state examination. Course includes 40 hours of classroom instruction along with 40 hours of clinical externship. WIA provider. For further information contact (843) 545-8400.

Pee Dee Coalition seeks volunteers
Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the reduction of rape, family violence and child abuse and to the needs of its victims. Pee Dee Coalition needs your support as a volunteer. Volunteers make a direct impact in the lives of victims. Whether it is holding someone’s hands at the hospital or organizing a pantry at the shelter, Pee Dee Coalition has many different programs that cover a variety of interests. HES offers parent workshops
Hemingway Elementary School faculty and staff invite all parents/guardians to a math/science workshop on Saturday, March 13, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There will also be a reading/ELA workshop on Saturday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Diabetes mini-conference held
The Williamsburg County Diabetes Education and Control Coalition is sponsoring a “Diabetes Mini-Conference – Community Health & Awareness Fair on Wednesday, March 3, at the Williamsburg County Recreation Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

VFW to host annual program
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6500, located at 2317 Sandy Bay Road, Kingstree, will host its annual Recognition Program with its monthly meal at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4. Friendship United Methodist Church Male Chorus will celebrates its 18th anniversary on March 14, at 3 p.m.

WA to host Oyster Roast

Sneak preview available
The board of the Lake City Community Theatre will offer a sneak preview of “South Pacific” to the deaf/hard of hearing community on Tuesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Blanding Street Auditorium in Lake City. A sign language interpreter will be present.

Car wash to be held
The King’s Academy Junior and Senior class will be having a car wash on Saturday, March 6. The time will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location will be the Exchange Bank branch on Longstreet St.

Yard sale benefits Haiti victims
There will be a church-wide yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, March 6, starting at 7 a.m. You can donate items for us to sell or come and buy some things.
All of the money raised will go to World Vision’s ministry in Haiti.
