Traffic Safety Checkpoints
The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of December.

Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

Friends of Library book sales
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a book sale on the first Saturday in each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The book sale will be held at the white house on Church Street, Kingstree, beside the library.

Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo,” where they do crafting, have Bible trivia, sing, share, fellowship and play Bingo.

Weight Watchers begins new class
Weight Watchers 2010 meeting will be held at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 314 E. Main St., Kingstree. Registration will be held January 7, at 5 p.m. Class starts January 14, at 5 p.m.

Vital Aging to hold meeting
Vital Aging of Williamsburg County, Inc. will hold its regular monthly Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday December 16, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Kingstree Wellness Center at 912 4th Avenue, Kingstree. Please call (843) 354-5496 if you have any questions.

Toys for Tots drop off points
Toys for Tots drop off points are Dollar General, McDonald’s, Bi-Lo and Food Lion stores. Please donate a new unwrapped toy.

Spring registration at WTC
Begin 2010 by registering for spring semester at Williamsburg Technical College.
Registration will be held January 6, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and January 7, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Course schedule information is available at www.wiltech.edu or by visiting the College. Williamsburg Technical College is your college, your future!

First Steps offers training
Williamsburg County First Steps will host a child care training on Saturday, December 12,  at 8:30 a.m. in the Williamsburg County School District Annex Staff Development Room located 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree. Providers can receive information in “Taking a Closer Look as We Work with Parents. Providers will receive 5.0 DSS credit hours in Program Administration. Classes now being offered
The Occupational Outlook Center is now accepting registration for the following classes.
EKG (cardiac technician)-this nine-week course is designed to provide students with the skills on monitoring patients’ blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Medical office assistant-this six weeks course allow students to acquire vital skills and demonstrate competence in a variety of medical office administration and clinical skills necessary for employment in the medical office setting. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  For more information, please contact (843) 545-8400.

Crime watch meeting
Piney Forest/Warsaw Community Crime Watch everyone is invited to crime watch meeting on December 17, at 7 p.m. at the Piney Forest Baptist church. For information call 355-6381.

Coat Drive  drop-off
One Warm Coat Drive drop-off will be located at the Medicine Center, Palmetto Bail Bonds and Becky’s Salon in Lake City from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gently used coats.

County library holiday closings
The Williamsburg County Library will be closed December 23-26, for Christmas and January 1, for New Year’s Day.

Class Reunion to be held
The 1965 class of Tomlinson High School will be celebrating their annual class reunion celebration on Saturday, December 26, at the Williamsburg County Recreation Department, Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree at 8:30 p.m. All Tomlinsonians and others are welcome, along with friends and family. Driver training class offered
Coastal Driving School has openings for the January 2, class session. An affordable driver’s education training program designed to educate your teens safely and adequately in the classroom and also behind-the-wheel. For more information, contact (843) 545-9321.

Tideland’s Hospice meeting
Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. holds a regular grief support group once a month n its Kingstree office. The group meets on the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. This meeting is open to the public at no cost. The hospice office is at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kingstree (by the Bank of Greeleyville).

VITA program offered
The VITA Program offers free tax help for low- to moderate-income (approximately $49,000) taxpayers who cannot prepare their own tax returns. This includes both the preparation of the returns plus e-filing of both the federal and state income tax returns. Williamsburg County will be offering this program at the Williamsburg County Library, 214 Jackson St., Kingstree, Saturdays, starting on January 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program will end on April 10.

Mardi Gras Madness
