Traffic Safety Checkpoints
The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of December.
Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.
Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting
The Town of Kingstree Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held December 11, at 6 p.m. The parade will line up on Jackson Street at 5 p.m., and the Tree Lighting Ceremony will immediately follow the Christmas Parade in Welch Park.

Coat Drive to be held
If you are interested in donating a coat, hat, gloves or scarves you can drop them off at First American Cash Advance, 1315 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree, SC 29556 or to find a location nearest you visit their website, www.LifeDoesHappen.com or call 1-888-300-CASH. Donations will be collected now until November 25, to ensure that the coats are received by those who need them for the winter season.
Christmas Parade to be held
The Trio Community Action Organization will hold its Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5, at 10 a.m. The parade line-up will begin at 9 a.m. at St. John AME Church, located on the Trio Rd. Friends of Library book sales
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a book sale on the first Saturday in each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The book sale will be held at the white house on Church Street, Kingstree, beside the library.
Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo,” where they do crafting, have Bible trivia, sing, share, fellowship and play Bingo.
Health screenings offered
Georgetown Hospital System announces complimentary on-site health screenings. Complimentary finger stick testing for cholesterol lipid panels requires a 10-12 hour fast (no eating or drinking the night prior to the screenings for optimal results). This panel also includes a blood sugar testing and a cardiac risk ratio. If just a complimentary blood sugar test only is desired, it will be available via finger stick at the booth beside this one and will require just a two hour fast of no eating and drinking prior. The screenings will be held at Hemingway Elementary School, 160 Baxley Rd., Hemingway on Wed., Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

VFW to hold meeting
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6500, located at 2317 Sandy Bay Rd., Kingstree, will host its monthly meal and meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. Classes now being offered
The Occupational Outlook Center is now accepting registration for the following classes.
EKG (cardiac technician)-this nine week course is designed to provide students with the skills on monitoring patients’ blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Medical office assistant-this six weeks course allow students to acquire vital skills and demonstrate competence in a variety of medical office administration and clinical skills necessary for employment in the medical office setting. NAACP to hold meeting
The Williamsburg Chapter of the NAACP will hold their monthly meeting on December 13, at the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Madison Ave., Kingstree at 4 p.m. Business of importance to be discussed. They are seeking new memberships.
Weight Watchers begins new class
Weight Watchers 2010 meeting will be held at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 314 E. Main St., Kingstree. Registration will be held January 7, at 5 p.m. Class starts January 14, at 5 p.m.
Toys for Tots drop off points
Toys for Tots drop off points are Dollar General, McDonald’s, Bi-Lo and Food Lion stores. Please donate a new unwrapped toy.
Library to host performances
The Williamsburg County Library will be having Porkchop Productions perform Holly & the Christmas Gift on Saturday, December 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Library – Kingstree and at 5 p.m. at the Kennedy Center in Greeleyville.
