The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of January.

Friends of Library book sales
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a book sale on the first Saturday in each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The book sale will be held at the white house on Church Street, Kingstree, beside the library.

Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number and address.

Senior Bingo in Lane
The senior citizens in Lane invite any senior citizen to join them each first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo,” where they do crafting, have Bible trivia, sing, share, fellowship and play Bingo.

Weight Watchers begins new class
Weight Watchers 2010 meeting will be held at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 314 E. Main St., Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays beginning at 5 p.m.

Tideland’s Hospice meetings
Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. holds a regular grief support group once a month in its Kingstree office. The group meets on the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m.  The hospice office is located at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kingstree (by the Bank of Greeleyville).

VITA program offered
The VITA Program offers free tax help for low- to moderate-income (approximately $49,000) taxpayers who cannot prepare their own tax returns. This includes both the preparation of the returns plus e-filing of both the federal and state income tax returns. Williams-burg County will be offering this program at the Williamsburg County Library, 214 Jackson St., Kingstree, Saturdays, started on January 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This program will end on April 10.
Mardi Gras Madness
Williamsburg Regional Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a $5,000 cash drawing The drawing will take place during Mardi Gras Madness on Saturday, February 20. For more information about tickets please call 843-426-2508 or email wrhfoundation@wmbgrh.com

Courses to be offered
The Occupational Outlook Center has open enrollment for the following courses:
Phlebotomy certificate – this 10 weeks course is designed to provide students with a review of the theory and skills required in proper collection of blood specimens from patients. Certified nurse assistant – in this nine weeks course, students will prepare for the written and skills state examination. Course includes   40 hours of classroom instruction along with 40 hours of clinical externship. For further information contact (843) 545-9321.

NAACP meeting to be held
The local chapter of the NAACP of Williamsburg County will meet on February 14, at 4 p.m. at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Madison Ave., Kingstree. Your presence will be greatly appreciated.

AARP meeting to be held
The Williamsburg County Chapter of the AARP will have their monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 27, at 12 noon at the Williamsburg Recreation Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Blvd., Kingstree. All members are asked to attend. New members are welcomed.

VFW to hold meeting
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6500, located at 2317 Sandy Bay Rd., Kingstree, will host its monthly meal and meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 4. This invitation is extended to all veterans and their spouses. This is your opportunity to become involve and understand the VFW missions, programs, and current affairs. Post 6500 assists veterans and their families applying for military claims/benefits and other issues, and is accepting new members and renew memberships. For further information, contact Dentist B. Training scheduled
An initial training and testing program to certify private pesticide applicators has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, at the Williamsburg County Clemson Extension office in Kingstree. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts for approximately six hours with some short breaks throughout the day. Light refreshments will be on-hand throughout the training, and there will be a lunch break around noon. The registration fee for the class is $50. Because of study material, seating in the conference room and general set-up for the class, as they are requiring that anyone wishing to attend the training must pre-register by February 1. A private applicator license is required for the purchase and use of restricted-use pesticides. This training prepares you to take the license exam, which will be given at the completion of the training. If there are any questions or you wish to register for the training, please call them at (843) 355-6106. If you need special considerations due to a disability, please let them know at the time you pre-register. You must pre-register by February 1.

St. Ann’s to host spaghetti supper
The St. Ann’s Catholic Church will be hosting a spaghetti supper on Friday, February 12, from  5 to 7 p.m. at 107 Hirsch Street, Kingstree. Take out or dine in. For more information contact 843-354-2330.

State of the County Address to be given
Williamsburg County Supervisor Stanley S. Pasley will deliver the State of the County Address on Monday, February 1, at 6 pm in the Williamsburg County Complex Auditorium Kingstree. The public is invited to attend.

WPC hosts special services
Williamsburg Presbyterian Church will host special services “FIRE UP THE FAITH” Sunday through Tuesday, March 7, 8 and 9, at 7 p.m. The guest minister will be the Rev. Dr. Theodore (Ted) Wardlaw, President of Austin Theological Seminary in Austin, TX.   
Dr. Wardlaw lived in Kingstree as a young boy from 1963 to 1967 when his father, the late Dr. Hubert Wardlaw, was the minister of Williamsburg Church.  There will be special music performed each evening at 6:45 p.m.  The church is located at 411 N. Academy St. in Kingstree.
