Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of March.

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check.  Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Eric Williams or Police Chaplain the Rev. Harold Jackson. Chief Williams or Rev. Jackson can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Caro-lina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2013 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Child Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Meetings - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments meetings will be held April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8*, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9*.  All meetings are held in the Council’s Conference Room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend all meetings.

Gala - In celebration of ArtFields LCCS presents an arts gala, “Jazz It Up” featuring the Dick Goodwin Quintet on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the National Bean Market.

This Columbia based quintet will bring a new level of excitement to the annual gala, performing a wide range of musical styles from Dixieland stompers to swing standards, Latin and contemporary flavors, sensuous ballads, plus original compositions written especially for the ensemble. Art exhibits of works by local students and professional artists will set the stage for this annual showcase event in Lake City.  A silent auction of artwork will raise funds for arts education in local schools. An array of fabulous hor d’oeuvres and fine wines makes this evening a highlight of the Lake City arts scene.

 

Meeting - Waccamaw Workforce Investment Board meeting schedule for 2013: March 19, May 21, July 16, September 17, and November19. All meetings are held in the council’s conference room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend all meetings.  Agendas for meetings are posted in the council’s office at least seven days prior to the meetings.  Copies of agendas may be obtained by calling (843) 546-8502.

 

Exhibit - For Black History…365, visit the C. Williams Rush Gallery/Museum of African-American Arts & Culture’s  “African Americans in History” held February 6 to March 31. This exciting exhibition features a snapshot education via artifacts and collectibles depicting contributions of African Americans in education, music, entertainment, military, literature, sports and the arts. The hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please call for group and other appointment times, (803) 397-1859 (School and youth groups are encouraged to attend). The gallery is located at 200 Hampton Ave., Kingstree.

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board will meet on Wednesday, March 20, at 4 p.m. at 61 Greenlee St., Kingstree.

 

Meeting - Vital Aging of Williamsburg County, Inc. will hold its monthly board of directors meeting on Wednesday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Kingstree Wellness Center at 912 4th Avenue, Kingstree.  Please call (843) 354-5496 with any questions.

Pageant - Mary’s Angels Independent Living, a 501©3 nonprofit organization, would like to invite you to attend the “Williamsburg County Page-ant” on Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Complex, 147 W. Main St., Kingstree.

The theme for the evening will be “Shine like a Diamond.” There will be in-kind and monetary prizes given to the winners. All businesses, vendors, and organizations are encouraged to participate by sponsoring a youth or supporting the event.

All female county residents grades eighth through 12th are encouraged to participate by registering by June 1, and submitting an entry form, head shot, and a nonrefundable fee  (no cash/checks) to Mary’s Angel Ind. Living, PO Box 734, Kingstree, SC 29556.

State of the County - Williamsburg County Supervisor Stanley S. Pasley will deliver his State of the County Address on Tuesday, March 19, in the Williamsburg County Public Service Administration Building - Council Chamber at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.

 

AARP Meeting - AARP Williamsburg County Chapter 5630 monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, at 12 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Recrea-tion Complex, located at 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree.

Anniversary - Lord of Lords of Hope Ministries will celebrate its first church anniversary on Friday, March 29, at 7:30 pm. The church is located at 531 W. Huggins St., Manning.

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County GOP regular meeting plus precinct meeting reorganization make ups will be held Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Brown’s Bar-B-Que of Kingstree.

 

Reunion - The Easler family reunion will be held April 7, at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church of Greeleyville. Join them for Sunday school and worship service. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

 

Egg Hunt - On Saturday, March 23, Andrews American Legion Auxiliary is hosting a children’s Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The event is free to all and will also feature a pony ride, a petting zoo, a slide ride, hotdogs, popcorn and soda.

All children and their parents are invited to the event. American Legion Child Safety booklets and other material will be available. Andrews American Legion Post 69 wishes a joyous Easter and Passover to the community. The event will be held at Andrews American Legion Post, 1067 N. Morgan Avenue in Andrews. Veterans are also most welcome.

Orientation - Great news! The Assisted Rides Program Volunteer Orientation will be held March 20, at Williamsburg County Library, 215 N. Jackson St., Kingstree, at 1:30 p.m.; and March 28, Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, 1230 Highmarket St., Georgetown, at 1 p.m. At this orientation you will receive your volunteer handbook and your picture will be taken for your ID badge. Reminder - The Kingstree Fire Department is still collecting cans for burn victims.

The can collection trailers are located at Kingstree Town Hall and next to the old Trading Place building. The proceeds from the can sale will go to MUSC Children’s Hospital Burn Center.

 

Meeting - The Williamsburg County Library Board of Trustees will have a board meeting on Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. in the Kingstree Library.
