Traffic Safety Checkpoints The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of January .

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical College (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

 

TOPS Program - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

 

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2013 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Child Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Meetings - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments meetings will be held February 11*, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8*, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9*. All meetings are held in the Council’s Conference Room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend all meetings. Agendas for meetings are posted in the council’s office at least seven days prior to the meetings. Copies of agendas may be obtained by calling (843) 546-8502.

 

AARP Meeting - AARP Williamsburg County Chapter 5360 monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, January 23, at 12 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Recrea-tion Complex, located at 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree. For more information contact Mrs. Chambers at 426-4601.

Health Fair - An “Affairs of the Heart” Community Health Fair will be held Saturday, February 2, at Kingstree Senior High School, 616 MLK Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., free information and screenings. Meeting - Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board will meet on Wednesday, February 20, at 4 p.m. at 61 Greenlee St., Kingstree.

 

Seminar - The United States District Court for the District of Columbia gave its approval to a new law requiring South Carolina voters to present a government-issued identification card with a photo in order to vote. Under the court’s order, the law will go into effect for elections held on or after January 1. Therefore, the Williamsburg County Voter Registration Office will conduct two seminars on photo ID requirements.

The seminars will be held at the Williamsburg County Public Service Administration Building in Williamsburg County Council Chamber. The first seminar will be held on Thursday, January 24, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The second seminar will be held on Thursday, February 7, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Concert - Rebecca Nissen, harpist, Amy Tully, flutist, and Jennifer Klich, violinist will be in concert on Thursday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake City Presbyterian Church.

Harpist Nissen returns to delight you with a musical experience you don’t want to miss. This concert will feature a variety of music featuring classical, jazz, pop and broadway. She showcases the harp by using outstanding technique and musicality. The blend of sounds from the harp, flute, and violin will enrich your enjoyment of this chamber trio.

 

Gala - In celebration of ArtFields LCCS presents an arts gala, “Jazz It Up” featuring the Dick Goodwin Quintet on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the National Bean Market.

This Columbia based quintet will bring a new level of excitement to the annual gala, performing a wide range of musical styles from Dixieland stompers to swing standards, Latin and contemporary flavors, sensuous ballads, plus original compositions written especially for the ensemble. Art exhibits of works by local students and professional artists will set the stage for this annual showcase event in Lake City. A silent auction of artwork will raise funds for arts education in local schools. An array of fabulous hor d’oeuvres and fine wines makes this evening a highlight of the Lake City arts scene.

 

Celebration - Mother Lula Barr’s 92nd birthday celebration will be held Saturday, February 9, at New Friendship Freewill Baptist Church at 5 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor Ben D. McClary, Jr. The Rev. James E. Williams is the pastor.
