A Pawley's Island man was killed in a crash that involved Williamsburg County Transit. Gregory Smith of Pawley's Island was killed Tuesday, July 17, when the truck he was driving was struck by a Williamsburg County Transit bus. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the bus, driven by Joshua McCrea, was traveling south on US 17. Smith who was traveling east on private property attempted to cross US Highway 17 and was struck on the driver's side by the bus. McCrea, a Williamsburg County resident, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured. McCrea has an impeccable driving record with the transit system according to transit officials. Of the 29 people on the bus, 13 were transported to three area hospitals. At time of press, one passenger remained in critical condition. The crash remains under investigation.
