Funeral services for Mrs. Throda Boyd “Shorty” Gamble, conducted by the Rev. James C. Lane, were held Saturday, January 9, 2010, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Pressley’s Funeral Home, followed at churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Gamble died Monday, January 4, 2010, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born January 17, 1931, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Marvin and Maria Wilson Boyd. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was affiliated with the United Methodist Women. She was married to the late Alvin “Ben” Gamble. She was employed by Kingstree Laundry and Rental and in June 2009, she retired after 52 years of service. Survivors are: one sister, Rinthia Boyd Brockington of Fayetteville, Georgia; one sister-in-law and caregiver, Louise S. Boyd of Kingstree; one step-daughter, Ruthena Gamble of Rochester, New York; a cousin like a sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Wilson of Kingstree.
