THOMAS MCELVEEN, JR., GARDEN CITY

Thomas R. “Butch” McElveen, Jr., formerly of Kingstree, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown. Memorial services were held Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Garden City Baptist Church of  Garden City. Born December 26, 1942, in Newberry County, he was the son of the late T.R. “Tommy” McElveen, Sr. and Eloise Lowe McElveen. He grew up in Clinton, and was a 1961 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the Army Reserve, and attended the University of South Carolina. He worked for the Seaboard Coastline RR, then Baxter Laboratories/IBIS in Kingstree for 26 years. He received his Real Estate License in 1994 and retired as a sales agent with Dockside Realty. He was a member of Garden City Baptist Church. A member of the Masonic Order for more than 40 years, he was a member of the Murrells Inlet Lodge #368, Omar Shrine, Omar Chefs, former member of the Omar Jokers, Omar Clowns, and a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Surfside Beach. While living in Kingstree, he coached little league baseball and football, was a member of the Kingstree Jaycees and administrator of the Kingstree Moose Lodge. Survivors are: his wife, Karen Brown McElveen of Garden City; three sons, T. R. “Mac” McElveen, III (Tonya) of Lake City; J. Alan McElveen of Garden City, and Mallory Kirby (Tammy) of Timmonsville; and five grandchildren.
