THEODORE CHANDLER, KINGSTREE

Funeral services for Theodore “Tan” “Pappy” Chandler, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr. and the Rev. John Henry Kennedy, were held Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at St. James Baptist Church of Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Chandler, 73, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Carolinas Hospital System of Florence. He was born April 15, 1939, in Greeleyville, the son of the late Josh and Ellen Mosely Chandler, Sr. Three siblings, George Mosely, Olivia West, and Virginia Nelson, preceded him in death. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. His work experience required talent and skills as a farmer, machine operator, and pit master (champion barbecue sauce master). He was a member of St. James Baptist Church of Greeleyville. He was married to the late Charlena Kennedy Chandler. Survivors are: two sons, Kennith Chandler of the home; and Kevin Chandler of Atlanta, Georgia; three daughters, Wanda Dixon (Frank) of Palm Bay, Florida; Martina Chandler and Minister Millicent Jackson (Samuel), both of Greeleyville; an adopted daughter, Carethea Dupree (James) of Manning; two grandchildren, he reared as his very own, Laticia Chandler and Natosha Chandler, both of Greeleyville; two brothers, Josh Chandler, Jr. of Greeleyville; and Herbert Chandler, Sr. of Detroit, Michigan; four sisters, Geneva Rogers (Levan) of Columbia; Florene Chapman and Sadie Williams (Theodore, Sr.), both of Troy, New York; and Hattie Baker (Fred) of Greeleyville; a special friend dear to him like a son, Don Dennis of Greeleyville; eight additional grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
