STEVEN GARRETT, LANE

Funeral services for Steven “Stevie” Washington Garrett, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant and the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Friday, February 15, 2013, at Union Missionary Baptist Church of Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery of Lane. Mr. Garrett died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital of Columbia. He was born on December 15, 1958, the son of the late Mary Washington Garrett and Johnny Garrett and the grandson of the late Louise and George Washington of Salters. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He received his formal education at C.E. Murray High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1977. Upon graduation he joined the US Navy, where he remained for 10 years. He was married to the late Stephanie Sylvia Conyers Garrett. After leaving the Navy, he was employed by Anderson Armored Truck Services of Columbia. He had a love for playing the drums. He spiritually expressed his talents at St. Paul Baptist Church of Columbia.

Survivors are: two daughters, Stacie Peaches Garrett and Sonja Joy Garrett, both of Columbia; his mother-in-law, Mary Conyers Taylor of Columbia; his father-in-law, James Palmer (Mary Ann) of Lane; and two grandchildren.
