Funeral services for Saraphine Dozier Shaw, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy L. Brockington, were held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Marion Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at McGill Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mrs. Shaw, 86, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was born September 6, 1923, in Salters, a daughter of the late Willie B. and Lannie Maxwell Dozier. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Morris College in Sumter. She was a member of Marion Missionary Baptist Church, where she established the Birthday Month Rally. She was also a member of the Evening Star Chapter No. 246, Order of the Eastern Star, Morris College Alumni Association and the Williamsburg County Retired Teachers Association. She was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Williamsburg County School District. She retired after 48 years of service. She was married to the late Roland Shaw. She was preceded in death by a son, Roland Erskin Shaw. Survivors are: three children, Celestine Elaine Shaw of Jersey City, New Jersey; Delores Shaw Cooper of Columbia; and Roland Orlando Shaw (Carol Ann) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; one sister, Clotelle Matthews of Greeleyville; four brothers, Ranny Dozier of Buffalo, New York; the Rev. Lewis Dozier of Columbia; Robert Dozier (Stella) of Salters; and Everett Dozier of Selden, New York; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
