Mrs. Sarah “Miss Sarah” Salters Odom, 94, widow of Emmerson Hugh Odom, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at her residence in Salters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Odom was born March 1, 1918, in her family home, Salters Plantation. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Leila Ferguson Salters. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Presbyterian College, Class of 1938. She had taught at Salters School and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Union Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Margaret Gregg Gordon Chapter of The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. As the fifth generation of the Salters family to live in the Salters Plantation home, Sarah was born, wed, and died in her home. Survivors are: two daughters, Sarah Janet Odom Ryan (James Hugh) of Wedgefield; and Elizabeth Salters Odom Jonte (Bobby) of Greeleyville; and two grandsons.
