Public water is about to flow to some 250 residents east of Kingstree as the Kingstree East Phase One water system is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. A ceremony held February 8, commemorated the beginning of construction.
The pipeline will stretch from Graham Road to White Oak Road in the area east of SC 52. “Folks have really been wanting this for a while,” said District 7 Councilman Franklin Fulmore of the first of two water systems being funded in part by USDA Rural Development. The Kingstree Phase Two White Oak project is currently out for bids and should begin within the next 90 days. Both phases will affect Fulmore’s district, as well as Councilmen Andy McKnight (D-5), and W.B. Wilson (D-2).
Sen. Yancey McGill attended the ceremony and expressed his gratitude to USDA Rural Development representatives Tyrone Williams and Kent Evans. “We would like to thank Mr. Evans, along with the USDA for what they have done and what they are doing,” said McGill. “This project was not moving, to be honest with you, until (Evans) started pushing it. So, I would certainly like to thank him.”
Others attending the ceremony included Lawrence Mc-Mahan, of McMahan Brothers Pipeline, Inc., Jack Whiteside, director of Williamsburg County Water and Sewer, and Harry Askins of Eastern Engineering.
