Man struck while riding bike

A man died after a vehicle struck him as he rode a bicycle on secondary 33 (New Zion Road) in Cades.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Paul Brothers, on Saturday, June 20, Howard Lee McFadden, age 53, was struck by a Pontiac driven by a New Zion man. Both vehicles were traveling north when the collision occurred.
The driver of the automobile could not see the bicycle because the cyclist was wearing dark clothing and had insufficient lighting for reflectors on the rear of the bike.
In addition, the driver could not swerve to miss the driver because of on coming traffic. The crash is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
