MENDEL WATSON, SR. - KINGSTREE

Funeral services for Mendel G. Watson, Sr., conducted by Robert F. Dorsey, Sr. and Moses Wilson, were held Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Watson died Friday, January 22, 2010, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. He was born May 23, 1937, in Kingstree, a son of the late William Mayrant and Eliza Watson Harris. Although an only child, he was like an older brother to his cousin, Roberta D. Faust (Willie) of Orangeburg. He received his education in Williamsburg County Schools and completed his studies at Williamsburg Technical College.
He was employed by Baxter/Travenol Labs until his retirement. He then enjoyed a second career selling insurance for North Carolina Mutual. He attended Bethel AME Church of Kingstree. He also studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Claudia Fulton Watson; six children, Charlie G. Watson, Terry B. Watson and Miss Stephanie A. Watson, all of Kingstree; Mrs. Natalie Watson Green (Roger) of Orangeburg; Grant M. Watson, Jr. (Cindy) of Sumter; and Mrs. Nichole Watson Davis (Anthony) of Summerville; six grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
