Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Odessa “Dessa” Mack, conducted by the Rev. Albert J. Rose, Sr., were held Saturday, October 24, 2009, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Mack died Monday, October 19, 2009. She was born May 1, 1948, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Isaac China, Sr. and Marie Catherine Johnson China. She received her formal education from Williamsburg Training School. She was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and served on the kitchen committee. She worked at St. Stephen Knit Ware in St. Stephen for 21 years. She was married to the late Emanuel Mack, Jr. Survivors are: one son, Hubert Mack (JoAnn) of Greeleyville; two daughters, Kimberly A. Mack and Mattie Mack Porter (Stanley) of Greeleyville; two nieces she reared as daughters, Charlene Woods and Mrs. Stephanie Gamble (Russell), both of Greeleyville; four brothers, Isaac China, Jr. of Greeleyville; David Brown (Teresa) of Manning; Willie China and John H. China, both of Greeleyville; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Collins (James), Shula Mae Woods and Emmie Hilton (Levan), all of Greeleyville; and Gail Pearson of Valley Cottage, New York; her father-in-law, Emanuel Mack, Sr. of Summerton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
