Mattie Lee Plyler Duke, 80, widow of James Ashley Duke, died Monday, January 28, 2013, at Carolinas Hospital of Florence. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Duke was born April 13, 1932, in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Hugh Plyler and Emma Knight Plyler. She was retired from Royal Dry Cleaners and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband James Ashley Duke, she was preceded in death by her first husband James Dewey Dukes, Jr., two sons, Alton “Wally” Dukes and Walter Van Dukes, and her companion George McClary. Survivors are: five daughters, Judy McClary of New Zion; Nancy Nettles (LeRoy) of Pineville; Cheryl DuBose of Florence; Nina Allen (Charles) of Summerville; and Karen Dukes (Dean) of Rock Hill; two sisters, Ruth Rollings of Jefferson and Patsy Underwood of Las Vegas, Nevada; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
