On January 28, 2010, Mary Elizabeth Dove Gilland of Conway died. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Don Steins, were held Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Kingston Presbyterian Church in Conway. Burial, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Gilland was born in Kingstree on February 3, 1915, a daughter of Leon Caldwell Dove and Marion Stringfellow Dove, she attended Winthrop College. During World War II, she worked for Congressman John L. McMillan of Florence. She married John deSaussure Gilland, Jr. of Florence and they moved to Conway, where he was surgeon at Conway Hospital and they raised three children. Mrs. Gilland was a member of the Huegenot Society, Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was predeceased by her husband and their son, John D. Gilland, III. Survivors are: two daughters, Elizabeth Gilland of Conway; and Jane Gilland Skinner of Georgetown; and four granddaughters.
