Funeral services for Mary Jane Davis, conducted by Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr., were held Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Ranzie Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary Cemetery of Salters. Ms. Davis died Monday, July 23, 2012. She was born November 8, 1933, in Salters, the daughter of the late Sam Davis and Charlotte Swinton Smith Davis. She was a member of Ranzie Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Salters, where she served as the Church Secretary, and as a member of the Missionary Board. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a graduate of the class of 1951. She also obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Morris College and her Masters in Education from South Carolina State University. She worked at Blakely Elementary, Blakely High School and D.P. Cooper Elementary School for 36 years. She was also the manager at D.P. Cooper Grocery Store. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Providence Chapter #249. Seven siblings, John “Mossa” Davis, James Davis, Dollie Davis Dukes, Ada Davis Grant, Martha Smith Tisdale, John “Sanko” Davis, and Leon Davis, preceded her in death. Surviving is one sister, Remelle McCray of Southfield, Michigan.
