Funeral services for Kenneth Lee “Kent” or “BoCat” Chatman, conducted by the Rev. Le’Vern Brown, were held Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Antioch Churchyard Cemetery of Kingstree.
Mr. Chatman died Sunday, January 15, 2012, at his residence. He was born February 27, 1961, in Kingstree, the son of Virginia Chandler and the late Hyme Chandler. One son, Kenneth Myers, and one brother, Keith Chandler, preceded him in death. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree. He had a number of jobs of which included The Reef, Tarheel Underground Utility, Fred Jones Construction, Williamsburg Packing Company, Process Steel, Rush Masonry, Jimmy’s Sign Service, PTI Transportation, private nursing, and Trident health Care System. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Morrisville and the St. Mark Community Men’s Club of which he served as vice-president. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Kingstree, are: his wife, Jerletha Myers-Chatman of the home; three daughters, Brenda McNair (Anthony) of Charleston; Jessica Myers and Crystal “Maggie” Myers of the home; five sons, Charles Myers (Rosa) of Greeleyville; Kevin, Antwon, Jason and Kendrick “Puppy” Myers, all of the home; nine children he reared as his own, Jennifer Myers, Kimberly, Kanisha, and Jasmine Dukes, Darrell Chandler (Tonya), Shalonda Lewis, Josephine Rivera (Jose), Tashawri Burgess and Justine Snow; two brothers, Leroy Covert (Juanita) of Hollandale, Florida; and Willie James Chandler (Letha) of Kingstree; two sisters, Cynthia Nellams and Patricia Mack, both of Kingstree; his grandmother, Louise Chatman of Kingstree; an aunt who was like a sister, Ester “Rita” Franklin (Ray) of Kingstree; his mother-in-law, Bessie McDonald (Moses) of Kingstree; seven grandchildren, four of which he reared as his own, Ta’tiana and Shi’Asia Myers, and Sha’Nia and Da’Twon McElveen.
