Funeral services for Joseph Edward “Joe” Williams, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Brockington, were held Friday, October 23, 2009, at Marion Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Marion Memorial Gardens in Salters. Mr. Williams died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter. He was born October 3, 1951, in Salters, a son of the late Lee Williams and Elizabeth Dozier Williams. He was affiliated with the Marion Baptist Church family of Salters. Some of the capacities that he served in were Gospel Choir, president of the Brotherhood of Marion Baptist Church, which transformed into a member of the Brotherhood of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Association, the Willing Worker’s Committee, president of the Male Chorus, volunteer for the Foodbank and one of the ministers of music for the church, where he played the bass guitar. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a 1970 graduate of Blakely High School, now known as D.P. Cooper Elementary School. He was employed at Oneita in Lane and Fun-Tees in Andrews for a number of years. He was a member of Square Deal Lodge #448. He joined in 1979 and served in many capacities. His most recent title was Senior Deacon. He played bass guitar for groups known as the Mighty Jubilee, Southern Jubilees and others. Survivors are: three sons, Bobby Williams (Rosaland) of Salters; Lawrence (Priscilla) of Kingstree; and Staff Sergeant Michael Williams (Lisa) of Schwienfurt, Germany; one daughter, RaShonda Williams of Kingstree; two nieces considered as daughters, Brenda Wilson (Ernie) of Kingstree; and Sabrina Giles (William) of Salters; one brother, Robert Williams (Everlena); one sister, Margie Brockington (Bobby Joe) of Kingstree; and six grandchildren.
