JOSEPH CHANDLER - KINGSTREE

Funeral services for Joseph “Stump” Chandler, conducted by Bishop Dr. Roosevelt Fulton and Presiding Elder Melvin Frierson, were held Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Crossroad Cemetery in Salters. Mr. Chandler died Wednesday, March 3, 2010. He was born March 3, 1950, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Walter and Sarah Porshay Chandler. He attended Trinity Holiness and St. Paul United Methodist Church. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. In 1971, he attended Job Corps., and earned a GED. The Corps taught him to be a skilled machine operator. After Job Corps, he moved to Rochester, New York. He worked as a truck driver. He was later employed by Williamsburg Packing Company. Survivors are: his companion, Johnnie Mae Nembhard of Kingstree; three children, Erron X. Chandler of Kingstree; and Joseph Chandler, Jr., and Jwanda Chandler, both of Rochester, New York; six children he raised as his own, Sharon Brown (Ted) of Braintree, Massachusetts; Cynthia L. Brown of Dorchester, Massachusetts; Nicole Darby (William) of Florence; Therome Chandler and Teresa Chandler, both of Rochester, New York; and Carlos Brown of Kingstree; six sisters, Odell Flagler, Odessa Timmons (Marvin) of Johnsonville; Louise Porcher of Camden, New Jersey; Rose Ann Tisdale (Willie) of Orlando, Florida; Queen Ester Berry of Woodlynne, New Jersey; and Christine Chandler-Shaw of Kingstree; three brothers, George Norman Chandler and Jacob Chandler, both of Kingstree; and Wilbur “Booster” Chandler of Rochester, New York; two step-granddaughters; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
