Funeral services for Johnnie Mae Grant, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr., were held Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Churchyard Cemetery of Kingstree. Ms. Grant died Friday, December 7, 2012, at McLeod Medical Center of Florence. She was born February 6, 1955, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Alice Grant. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Church Choir, Usher Board and Missionary Board. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a graduate of St. Mark High School Class of 1976. She was awarded the Certificate of Tailoring at Williamsburg Technical College. She also attended the Early Childhood classes and Student Support Services of Williamsburg Technical, where she was presented the award for Highest Grade Point Average maintained by a tutee. She worked various types of jobs throughout her life: Kingstree Radio Station, Spring Maid Hotel in Myrtle Beach, Kingstree Station House Restaurant, a substitute for Kingstree Elementary School, Pizza Hut and Oxford Manufacturing.
She was preceded in death by Esau Grant, Jacob Grant, Junior Grant, Enoch Grant, James Grant, Eliza Jane Grant Gamble, Mary Grant Wilson, Henry Grant and Louis “Bill” Mitchum. Survivors are: one daughter, Wendy Renada Grant of the home; one son, Rynal Oneal Grant of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; four sisters, Hester Grant, Sullie Grant, Martha Bryant and Janette Chandler (Eugene), all of Kingstree; one brother, Royal Haven Grant of Kingstree; a special niece she helped raised, Charlene McCrea (Rev. Danny) of Columbia. Pallbearers were Crishon McCrea, Chris Grant, Joseph Grant, Eric Chandler, Vincent Hughes, and Eugene Chandler.
