Funeral services for Jannie Mae Burroughs, conducted by the Rev. Anna G. Miller, were held Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Friendship United Methodist Church of Nesmith. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery of Nesmith. Ms. Burroughs died Thursday, May 17, 2012. She was born February 23, 1935, in Nesmith, a daughter of the late William Gus and Amelia K. Burroughs.

She was a lifetime member of Friendship United Methodist Church of Nesmith, where she served as a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Services and a member of Circle No. 1. She received her formal education from Brown School of Nesmith. She furthered her education at Claflin College of Orangeburg, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City, New York and began her career with Queens Hospital in 1962, where she was employed for 33 years. She was married to Lloyd Lasky. Survivors are: one daughter, Bernadette Green (Sherman) of the home; two sisters, Margaret Nesmith of Nesmith; and Ida Gaddy (Rayshaw) of Florence; and two brothers, James Clayton Burroughs of Nesmith; and Keeler Burroughs of Bronx, New York.
