Funeral services for Mrs. Ila Mae “Big Ila” Swinton Snowden, conducted by the Rev. W.C. Ervin, III, and the Rev. Joseph Cobin, were held Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at St. Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church of Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary AME Churchyard Cemetery of Salters. Mrs. Snowden died Friday, January 13, 2012. She was born April 19, 1947, in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Charlie Swinton and Rhodie Mouzon Swinton. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County, and was a graduate of Blakely High School Class of 1965. She was a member of St. Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher, a member of the St. Phillip AME Church Senior Choir, and the Kitchen Committee. She was employed with Oneita Knitting Mill as a machine operator. She was also a home health provider for a number of years. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rectina McCrea, and three brothers, Leroy Swinton, James Swinton, and Robert Swinton. Survivors are: her husband, Robert Swinton, Jr. of the home; four sons, Anthony Snowden of Salters; Tyrone Snowden and Antonio DaMarco Snowden of Washington, DC; and Charlie Wendell Snowden of Greenville; two daughters, Tamiko La’Shawn Snowden of Columbia; and Cindy Lee Snowden of Salters; two grandchildren, she reared as her own, Aaliyah Deja’-Mo’ne Snowden of Columbia; and Damien Antwane Rodgers of Greeleyville; three step-children, Samuel Conyers of Columbia; Roosevelt Morris of Washington, DC; and Rosetta Morris of Salters; and two sisters, Learlean Tisdale of Salters; and Jessie Lee Scott (Gus) of Kingstree.
