Greeleyville man dies of injuries

A Greeleyville man died of injuries he sustained after being hit while driving his moped. According to reports, on the afternoon of July 13, Willie James Chatman, 59, of Greeleyville was heading northbound on Easler Highway, approximately four miles north of Greeleyville when Gordon Mack, who was driving a pickup in the southbound lane, crossed the center line, striking the moped.

Chatman died four days later from the injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured during the crash. However, as a result of an investigation he has been charged with a felony, driving under the influence according to Lance Corporal Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Mack was transported to the Williamsburg County Detention Center. The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
