Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Lee Snow Bennett, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton and the Rev. James Williams, were held Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Evangelistic Temple W.O.T.C. Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery of Kingstree.
Mrs. Bennett died Friday, January 6, 2012, at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. She was born May 10, 1948, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Minnie Lee Snow and the late Deacon Sidney Snow. She was a graduate of Tomlinson High School, Class of 1966. After relocating to Washington, DC, she became a member of Word of Power Ministers Church in Washington, DC, where she served on the Deaconess Board. She was married to Ricky Craven, and later married Gregory Bennett. While residing in Washington, DC, she attended Dudley School of Cosmetology. She also attended the University of Washington, DC, where she received a certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. She pursued her career in catering after she received her certificate from the Culinary Institute of America College in New York. She was employed at one of the most famous restaurants in Georgetown, Washington, DC, “The Cave,” then the big job came, at the US Senate. She was also a good friend of the late SC State Senator Strom Thurmond. She worked at the Senator’s House for 21 years after retiring.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: three children, Antonio Snow (Lisa), Kobie Craven and Keshia Craven, all of Washington, DC; her siblings, Sidney Snow, Jr. (Carol) of Durham, North Carolina; Leroy Snow (Diane), Corine Johnson (Gerald), Jerline Snow, and Barbara McBride (Frankie), all of Kingstree; and Vivian Goodwin (Thomas) and Mollie Snow (Eddie), both of Washington, DC; and six grandchildren.
